Understanding zones and service areas
What a zone means
Carriers price shipments by distance in zones. The farther a package travels, the higher the zone and the typical cost and transit time.
Why location matters
Shipping from a warehouse near the customer lowers the zone. Multi-location inventory targets zones 1–4 for most domestic orders instead of zones 5–8.
Service-area notes
Delivery speeds depend on destination and carrier availability. Remote areas, PO boxes, and territories may have different service levels.
